    Buddy Emmer & Andy Santana

Harrah's South Lake Tahoe 15 Hwy 50, Stateline, NV, United States

For his latest CD, Andy Santana has resurrected the infamous West Coast Playboys. Watch Your Step! features an army of talent including guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Kid Andersen, longtime musical companions Mighty Mike Schermer and June Core, as well as Bay Area blues stalwarts Rusty Zinn, Anthony Paule, Bob Welsh and others. Here Andy’s originals stand alongside some interesting covers that have the iconoclastic sensibilities of a true American original.

While listening to Watch Your Step! it is as if you are in a New Orleans dance hall that just happens to be on a beach in California. Sorry Santa Cruz, your secret is out of the bag.

Andy Santana was inducted in to the Sacramento Blues Hall of Fame on September 30, 2018 along with AJ Joyce, Jimmy Morello and RW Grigsby. There was also a special tribute to the late Frankie Lee.

The ceremony took place at Harlow's followed by a showcase at the Torch Club.

Buddy Emmer & Mighty Mike Schermer

Harrah's South Lake Tahoe 15 Hwy 50, Stateline, NV, United States

Mighty Mike Schermer is probably the best blues guitarist, singer and songwriter you’ve never heard of"
    Tommy Castro

“Every time I play with him my booty hurts afterwards from him kicking it all night!” - Elvin Bishop

“Funky and authentic!” - Bonnie Raitt

"Hands down one of the best songwriters in the blues today" - Bill Wax, XM/Sirius Radio "Bluesville"

The opening cut of Mighty Mike Schermer’s 8th solo album describes the 57 year-old guitarist/singer/songwriter’s musical journey perfectly. “It ain’t getting’ old, it’s just getting’ good!”

Recorded at Greaseland in San Jose, CA with the help of perennial Blues Award winner/Grammy nominee and multi-instrumentalist Kid Andersen, “Just Gettin’ Good” showcases Mighty Mike at his guitar-slinging, soul-singing and storytelling best. 12 original songs retain the energetic live-show feel throughout, with stellar performances by some of the Bay Area’s top musicians including Steve Ehrmann (Roy Rogers, John Lee Hooker), Tony Stead (Tommy Castro, Sly and The Family Stone), Paul Revelli (Joe Louis Walker, Chuck Prophet), D’mar (Little Richard, Rick Estrin and the Nightcats), June Core (Charlie Musselwhite, Robert Jr. Lockwood) and Austin DeLone (Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe). Jerry Jemmott, John Nemeth, Terry Hanck and The Sons of the Soul Revivers all contribute mightily in guest appearances. The knockout punch may well be delivered by Mike’s beautiful and talented partner Ms. Kimmy Pickens, featured in more than one Star-Is-Born musical and songwriting moment.

    Buddy Emmer & Trey Stone

Harrah's South Lake Tahoe 15 Hwy 50, Stateline, NV, United States

A black man with an afro channeling the cosmos through a stack of Marshall speakers and an upside-down guitar forever changed the direction of Trey Stone’s life.

The South Shore musician pointed to seeing Jimi Hendrix perform in 1969, when Stone was a teenager going to his first show in Southern California, as the moment he knew the guitar, rather than the trombone, was for him.

“I wanted to write. I wanted to compose. I wanted to have a tight band,” Stone said of his musical ambitions after that first concert.

In the decades since, the multi-instrumentalist has put together a storied career, working with musical legends like Bootsy Collins and George Clinton, playing with long-running Oakland, California, soul act Tower of Power, performing on “Saturday Night Live” and making regular appearances with his own group in Northern California and Nevada. A pioneer in the 1970s soul and funk movement, Stone contributed to songs like Rose Royce’s “Car Wash” and, later, Deee-Lite’s “Groove is in the Heart.” He also earned a gold record for his work with Keith Washington on 1991’s “Kissing You.”

Another career highlight came more recently. In October, Stone was inducted into the Rhythm & Blues Music Hall of Fame for his work with Motown recording act the Undisputed Truth, which counts “Smiling Faces Sometimes” among its notable creations. The honor put him in the company of luminaries like Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles, who were also inducted into the Detroit, Michigan, museum this year

    Dave Mason

Harrah's South Lake Tahoe 15 Hwy 50, Stateline, NV, United States

Dave Mason’s career spans half a century and encompasses producing, performing, and song writing.

Fans and critics alike hail Dave as one of the most talented songwriters and guitarists in the world – which is why he is still performing over 100 shows a year to sold-out crowds.

Mason has been playing guitar most of his life. By 15, Dave had founded two bands: The Deep Feeling, and The Hellions. At 18, the Worcester, England native teamed up with Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, and Chris Wood to form the legendary band traffic. At 19, Mason penned the song “Feelin’ Alright”. The rock anthem, first recorded by traffic and then covered by dozens of other artists (including Joe Cocker), cemented both Dave’s and Traffic’s legacy, and had a profound influence over rock music that continues today.
